Our department is committed to delivering high-quality network support, leadership, and training to partner organizations. The Network Initiatives team serves as:

The mission of the �������� (��������) is to Improve the quality of life in our community by promoting strong families and students who are prepared for life, college, and career. As such, �������� comprises multiple facilities distributed throughout the County, allowing us to provide services to students, families, and school districts. The Network Initiatives team supports the data communication needs of all �������� programs, including:

Network communication services are critical to support voice and data systems across multiple locations and support the needs of our programs. Services provided by Network Initiatives include:

• Network design, installation, and configuration
• Network monitoring and troubleshooting
• Electrical power backup systems for network equipment
• Cybersecurity services such as firewalls, VPN, IDS, and DDoS mitigation
• Wireless network installation, configuration, and management (Wi-Fi)

Imperial Valley Telecommunications Network

Since 2001, the Imperial Valley Telecommunications Authority (IVTA) has partnered with Imperial County public agencies to bring reliable broadband connectivity to the County. IVTA provides new technology and community-wide system access to the Imperial Valley public agencies and contributes to the community's growth and development.

Under the administration and management of the �������� (��������), our self-provisioned network supports 36 member agencies and over 120 locations throughout the County.

The IVTA services include:

• Local/wide area network monitoring and problem management.
• Manages network infrastructure construction projects, including fiber optic and wireless system installation.
• Installs, configures, and maintains network equipment.
• Provides network monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
• Network security.
• Manages backup power systems and environment monitoring systems.
• Connects to the California Research and Education Network.

IVTA’s significant projects include:

• Connecting member agencies to a state-of-the-industry fiber-optic and wireless communications network.
• Planning for future uses of the high-speed network to improve efficiency and reduce operations costs.
• BorderLink is a wireless communication system for member agencies using LTE technology over the Educational Broadband Service (EBS) wireless spectrum.

K-12 High Speed Network

The mission of the California K-12 High-Speed Network (K12HSN) is to enable educators, students, and staff across the state to have access to a reliable high-speed network that has the capacity to deliver high-quality online resources to support teaching and learning and promote academic achievement.

is a state program funded by the California Department of Education (CDE). In 2004, CDE competitively selected the �������� (��������) as the Lead Education Agency (LEA) to create and manage the K-12 High-Speed Network program.

partners with the Corporation for Education Network Initiatives in California (CENIC) to provide the California K-12 community with:

• Network Connectivity and capacity planning
• 24/7 Network Operations Center
• Network Monitoring
• Cybersecurity Services
• K-12 School Connectivity Database
• Broadband Subsidy program training and support

K12HSN administers K-12’s participation in the California Research and Education Network (CalREN). CalREN is the high-speed, high-bandwidth statewide network of 17 Hub Sites and circuits linking to 92 K-12 Node Sites, 10 University of California Campuses, 23 California State University Campuses, 116 Community College Campuses, 968 Public Libraries, as well as the 4 participating private Universities. CalREN is also linked to the national Internet2 network, forming an advanced state and national “Intranet” for educational use.

Statewide network operations are provided by the (CENIC).
